Storm of the Century

Ok, so maybe not the storm of the CENTURY, but it was a freaky big storm! Especially when you’re trying to deliver a wedding cake! With my wife April driving and me balancing the cake, we battled dust storms, tipped over trees, sideways rain, and finally hail to get this wedding cake to its destination. After sitting in front of the church for a half hour, my daughter Kaitlin volunteered to brave the weather and run inside to grab a plastic bag to cover the cake. The three of us worked as a fine tuned machine to get the cake inside without a single drop getting on it. The relieved bride and groom were happy to see the final product.

Back to Work

After a several month break from making cakes, I got to do this fun Minecraft themed cake for Meadow on her 13th birthday. The cake features the hero and his pig modeled on top of a pyramid of chocolate cake and rice crispy cubes. The base cake is chocolate and has character icons ringing it with the birthday girls name in themed font.

Happily Ever After!

My daughter Britney and her true love Andy said their “I do’s” and began their journey towards a “happily ever after” life.  Their four tier stenciled cake with fresh white roses is topped with the happy bride and groom sharing a moment together with a small black bird sheltered in her palms.  The cake traveled 375 miles and was partially assembled in three locations.  Whew!

Not a real one, but…

Cameron really wanted a miniature stingray for his 15th birthday. After pricing out the ray, the tank, and all of the gear to go with it, he got this one instead, complete with chocolate sea shells and graham cracker sand. Not a real one, but pretty good tasting.

Why Make Cakes
  • Why Cakes?

My name is Brian Judd, happily married father of eight living in the city of St. George in southern Utah. I am an avid viewer of cake decorating shows - everything from "Ace of Cakes" and "Cake Boss" to all of the cake "Challenges". The incredible sculptures that they make out of flour and sugar are amazing. In 2009 my children dared me to give it a try. Surprisingly I heard myself commit to making the cake for my daughter's upcoming wedding. I had yet to make a single cake, let alone make or use fondant. The cakes shown on these pages are an illustration of my journey into the world of cake decorating and ultimately to my own cake business - "Dad Makes Cakes".
