The Baby is Almost Here!

My daughter Ashley is about due to have her first child and of course that means a baby shower which, of course, means a baby shower cake from dad. The cake comes complete with sugar flowers, baby carriage, teddy bear, and blanket.

Chocolate, Peanut Butter, and Ashley

I finally delivered on my promise to make my daughter Ashley a special birthday cake of her very own. It was a long time coming, but I think that she liked it. The chocolate, peanut butter, and Ashley were a Perfect Combination!

Not a real one, but…

Cameron really wanted a miniature stingray for his 15th birthday. After pricing out the ray, the tank, and all of the gear to go with it, he got this one instead, complete with chocolate sea shells and graham cracker sand. Not a real one, but pretty good tasting.

Rock On Pickle Man!

Dillon was nicknamed “Dill Pickle” by his sisters so for his 17th birthday he was immortalized in cake playing his favorite instrument. Rock on Dillon!

Wedded Bliss!

My beautiful daughter Ashley married her true love Johnnie and the new Mr. and Mrs. Griffiths are ready to live happily ever after! I was excited (and nervous) to make their “mostly” traditional wedding cake, complete with sugar Gerbera Daisies, hand-piped scrollwork, and a climbing bride and anxious groom.

Cake Plumbing

Sometimes you have to give your cake a little more “backbone” to keep it from falling over. I put some PVC pipe and some other plumbing hardware to a new use when I made an upside-down topsy-turvy cake. To see a picture of the finished “Turvy-Topsy” cake, Click Here or click on the Birthday tab above.

Gooey is Fun

One of my favorite parts of cake making is making the marshmallow fondant. I tried the ready-made stuff, but it didn’t taste as good. Squishing the gooey hot marshmallow and powdered sugar mix through my fingers brings back memories of mom telling me to stop playing with my food. This finished fondant will be going on Dillon’s 16th Birthday cake. Check out the finished cake by clicking on the Birthday tab.

Why Make Cakes
  • Why Cakes?

My name is Brian Judd, happily married father of eight living in the city of St. George in southern Utah. I am an avid viewer of cake decorating shows - everything from "Ace of Cakes" and "Cake Boss" to all of the cake "Challenges". The incredible sculptures that they make out of flour and sugar are amazing. In 2009 my children dared me to give it a try. Surprisingly I heard myself commit to making the cake for my daughter's upcoming wedding. I had yet to make a single cake, let alone make or use fondant. The cakes shown on these pages are an illustration of my journey into the world of cake decorating and ultimately to my own cake business - "Dad Makes Cakes".
