Stripes & Dots cakes

Rain Couldn’t Keep Them from Tying the Knot!

My son Dillon and his beautiful bride, Brooke, said “I do” on a rainy Saturday and celebrated their union with this classic white and gold 4-tier cake with large sugar flower. I really enjoyed making the flower petals and putting it all together.  I plan on making more flowers in the future.

My Baby is Sixteen!

My baby girl Kaitlin is sixteen! (finally she says). I made this colorful cake to suit her very eclectic tastes. Shout out to The Violet Cake Shop for the great tutorial on the two-tone petals that I used on the base and the ball. I really like the simplicity of the black on white stripes (Kait’s idea).

Why Make Cakes
  • Why Cakes?

My name is Brian Judd, happily married father of eight living in the city of St. George in southern Utah. I am an avid viewer of cake decorating shows - everything from "Ace of Cakes" and "Cake Boss" to all of the cake "Challenges". The incredible sculptures that they make out of flour and sugar are amazing. In 2009 my children dared me to give it a try. Surprisingly I heard myself commit to making the cake for my daughter's upcoming wedding. I had yet to make a single cake, let alone make or use fondant. The cakes shown on these pages are an illustration of my journey into the world of cake decorating and ultimately to my own cake business - "Dad Makes Cakes".
